"TVfilm" showcases the talents of upstate New York media makers across all genres.
In this episode, we begin with a film by Cara Yeates, "Gone Before Your Eyes".
- My mother was the inspiration for this film.
She was an artist and she also has Alzheimer's disease.
At a certain point in the disease, she continued going to her art studio, but she could no longer paint.
And that was the inspiration for this film.
I really wanted to try to understand what might be the obstacles in her way and why couldn't she do something that defined her for so long?
My mom's still with us, she is in a memory care unit.
She's very well taken care of and I'm more optimistic now than I was when I made the film.
And I think she's having her own human experience, you know.
She sometimes interacts once in a while.
She says, "I love you," which is really wonderful.
But most of the time she's kind of in her own world and experiencing her own things and, you know, she's not able to tell us what she's experiencing, but it doesn't mean that it's not an important experience.

- I moved to the states when I was eight years old and I, my parents got these menial jobs and they needed cheap daycare.
And so we, my cousin and my brother and I, were dropped off at this Bible camp and most of what you see is what happened.
A lot of it is unfortunately true, or maybe fortunately because it makes a great story.
Philip and I have known each other for probably 30 years.
I don't know if we've ever done a real count, but we both grew up in Poughkeepsie and he's always been a reader of my work.
So we'll pass projects back and forth.
If I need a second pair of eyes, I'll often send something to Philip.
- And (chuckling) we were both laid off on the same day.
And that was sort of the, that was the spark that set us on the road to putting a production together.
- This is one chapter of a larger story.
I imagine that this could be a very interesting series.
At the core, it's very much about repressed memories and the things that we choose to forget because they're so painful.
- We hope we found that balance between rather quirky comic moments couched in a story that is tragic in nature, I think really.
